Standard Announcement (major changes)

On July 20, 2010, The M11 set will be released; SCRY is now incorporated into the core set, and the DEATHTOUCH mechanic has been updated...

Starting with M11, deathtouch no longer ignores blocking order in situations involving multiple blockers. Additionally, you only need to assign a single point of damage from a creature with deathtouch to each blocker, which makes deathtouch a potent combination with trample. A 4/4 with trample and deathtouch can assign one damage to a blocking 8/8 and the other 3 damage to the defending player. The full FAQ entry for deathtouch appears on the LINK below

Ninth Edition
Mirrodin, Darksteel, Fifth Dawn
Champions of Kamigawa, Betrayers of Kamigawa, Saviors of Kamigawa
Ravnica: City of Guilds, Guildpact, Dissension
Coldsnap

--

>>> From July 1, 2010 forward, the Extended format will include approximately FOUR YEARS of M:TG sets instead of Seven.
Note: The four cards previously on the banned list (Æther Vial, Disciple of the Vault, Sensei's Divining Top, and Skullclamp) are in sets that are no longer in the Extended format.

... so much for 'over extended'. What a complete 180n degree turnaboout to what players wanted. I think 1. Extended will become very popular as a serious replcement to Standard for most Grand Prix and weekend events
2. Standard will become the dominant FNM format, but the higher level GPTs and PTQs will likely not be Standard
3. The dominant Eternal Format will now be Legacy. Extended is no longer in conflict with this format. The DCi will now more closely scrutinise the banned list and ensure the format doesnt continue out-of-hand

Sounds to me like they're making room for Overextended to not be in conflict with any played formats tbh

I think Rob is correct, I can see Legacy being a real niche format, and SuperOverUber Extended will be the issue.
